I was listening to a seminar the other day and one of the points was about how business owners think our work is hard. The example cited was a business owner complaining about setting up a multi-step marketing program.
The speaker said to try working in the stables of a racecourse where the guys have to get up at the crack of dawn, do intensive manual labour all day, and if the horses are racing... they might not finish till 10pm at night. Now maybe your business involves manual labour but mine involves thinking and writing... that's about it.
So it was a bit of a shock to my system today when I went to help out my girlfriend run a playgroup for autistic children. We were looking after 5 children and just keeping their attention and focus for 2 hours was incredibly draining. And that's just playing with kids. I have no idea how she does this every day or how the parents of these kids are still able to walk with their eyes open.
So I guess I'm thankful to have nice, easy (at least for me) work that I enjoy. I love diving into more marketing and business building coaching, reading books and learning more. I also love looking at a business and coming up with creative strategies to market them.
The lesson for today: Be more appreciative of your business owner status... or maybe it's to work out how to only do the work you enjoy... or both!
