Web Marketing Strategies That
Will Make You More Sales

Chess pieces
A good strategy leads to victory

Most web marketing strategies fail because they miss one of the two critical ingredients for a successful website. So let's jump right in with the common website success formula:

Traffic + Conversion = Sales

It's no good having lots of traffic and poor conversion. Just like it's a waste of time having great conversion and no traffic. Any web marketer who implies one is more important than the other just isn't telling you the whole story.

But Wait... There's More!

Personally I believe there is a correct order that you should approach your website with and this adds another essential part of the puzzle: Client Fulfillment. This is why I created the Pyramid For Website Success as it clearly shows how you should create your web marketing strategy:

  1. Client Fulfillment
  2. Conversion
  3. Traffic

I hope it's clear that Client Fulfillment must come first. If you can't satisfy (or more importantly amaze) clients then there's really no point selling them anything. Then you need to develop your web marketing strategies for both conversion and traffic.

Web Marketing Strategy #1: Conversion

You need to have a plan in place when a visitor reaches your website. This plan will depend on what you're selling, your market and many other factors. However there are two common approaches that should fit your business.

  1. Sell them something right away
  2. Collect their contact details and start a conversion sequence

If you're selling a low price item then option one might be for you. However I still recommend building your database by collecting contact details. Because no matter how good your conversion process is most people won't buy... and a smart marketer will want to multiple chances to convert them.

Collecting contact details also gives you the opportunity to build a relationship with your visitors. A visitor is simply a lot more likely to trust you if they've received many useful emails from you when compared to the first time they arrive on your website.

Your Website Conversion Process

Here's a simple process you can take away and implement on your website right now:

  1. Provide valuable content on your website
  2. Collect contact details in exchange for valuable free report/audio/video + email newsletter
  3. Send more valuable information via email
  4. Send an irresistible offer for paid products and services

And yes it really is that simple... fine tuning the process can be a challenging but I believe this process will be much more effective than your current one. I can say this quite boldly because most websites don't have a conversion process at all.

Web Marketing Strategy #2: Traffic

Now you have a great product or service and your conversion process sorted... it's time to add the traffic. Traffic is the lifeblood of the internet so many creative people have come up with thousands of creative ways to do it. I should also point out that many people will try to wow you with claims of magical free traffic for your website.

Of course by free they mean you don't have to pay money for it... but you'll probably have to pay in time instead. It's up to you to decide what's more valuable to you personally at this stage in the game - time or money - and then plan your strategy accordingly. I'll give you my favorite free and paid traffic strategies right now.

Article Marketing

This is the best starting point for most websites because it's so simple and helps with your conversion process as well. All it involves is writing more valuable content and distributing it to websites called article directories. These directories accept articles from all kinds of website owners and distribute them to other people who want content.

Each article will have space for an author bio box at the bottom of the article. It is here where you can link back to your website and get free traffic. It's obviously important to have a compelling reason for them to visit your website and this is where your valuable free report/audio/video can also come in useful.

Pay Per Click (PPC) Marketing

Most people know about the PPC ads that appear next to search results such as in Google and on related pages of content scattered around the internet. PPC marketing is a fast and easy way to get traffic... which is why it comes at a cost. However if you're making most sales from your PPC ads than the ads are costing you... it's a great way to make money.

The two most important factors when it comes to PPC are selecting the right keywords and having a compelling ad that attracts buyers. You want to carefully select your keywords, create individual ads for small keyword groups and then send them to a specific page on your website for more information. Just remember to spend some time perfecting your process as every cent counts for your bottom line.

Sticking To Your Web Marketing Strategies

The biggest mistake I see online (and have made!) is to not commit fully to a strategy. Most people dreaming of internet riches will try a strategy and get positive results... but when they don't make thousands of dollars overnight they start chasing some other new strategy.

The biggest lesson I've learnt (and the hard way I might add) is that there is always work involved. You can't create a successful website by chasing some dream of lying on the beach while money rains into your bank account. Sure it's possible but it comes after the work involved setting up the website properly.

Now this may not be a popular statement and the one that gets me the most sales. But I don't call myself the Web Marketing Outlaw for nothing. I do things a little differently around here.
